What You Need

Prospective Candidates need to comply with the following Minimum Admission Requirements.

Minimum entry requirements for Diploma in Emergency Care

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with higher certificate endorsement or

A National Senior Certificate with diploma endorsement or

A National Senior Certificate with bachelor’s degree endorsement or

An applicant who has successfully completed a Higher Certificate at an accredited HEI and has accumulated relevant credits or

A National N4 Certificate with passes of at least 50% in at least four appropriate subjects

Required subject and minimum APS scores:

Applicants are required to pass the programme evaluations i.e. Medical fitness, physical fitness and environmental fitness.

Other additional requirements for Diploma EMC and Higher Certificate EMC may include the following:

Personal interviews | Portfolios of evidence | Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process | SAQA certification of equivalent language proficiency tests

Identity document
Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
National Senior Certificate, no statement of results will be accepted. Applicants currently in Grade 12, must submit marks obtained at the end of Grade 11 together with their most recent Grade 12 marks.
If you are upgrading your marks submit proof from Western Cape Education Department

Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care

Note: Applications are closed.

The Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is a one-year, full time programme, which includes professional, vocational, and industry-specific knowledge that provides a sound understanding of general theoretical principles as well as a combination of general and specific procedures and their application.

Diploma in Emergency Medical Care

Diploma in Emergency Medical Care is a three-year full time programme which includes development of professional, vocational, and industry-specific knowledge; skills, applied competencies and professional attributes required for rendering quality pre-hospital emergency medical care to the communities within the Paramedics (advanced life support) scope of practice in a prehospital emergency care and rescue environment.

Applying for Admission

Opening and closing dates of applications shall be guided by the annual WCGCEC prospectus.
The following section outlines the application requirements:

Applications are assessed according to the requirements set out for each learning programme offered by WCGCEC.

Failure to meet all requirements may lead to the application being rejected.

No late applications will be accepted, unless prior authority was granted, or extenuating circumstances can be proven.

Applicants will receive a response within two calendar months of the closing date of applications.

Successful applicants will be given information regarding the next stage in the admissions process (e.g. a pre-course examination or an invitation to attend an interview).

Only fully completed applications will be processed for potential selection, including the programme choice, signed declaration and informed consent.

RPL admission will be guided by relevant WCGCEC RPL policy.

RPL applications are subject to evaluation by the recruitment, selection and admission committee.

The WCGCEC will evaluate each applicant with special circumstances and needs on an individual basis.

Applicants who are unsuccessful in the initial application or at the end of a year of study may re-apply for the subsequent year, if they do so within the applications period. However, should the applicant be successful, entry into a programme will only be possible after accommodating applicants attempting the programme for the first time, and provided additional seats are available.
